So you want to use Google Apps email and still use our DNS system? Here is a quick guide on the setup needed in our DNS panel for Google apps.
Removing our Mail settings
So lets start by removing the following DNS entries we make for our service to handle mail. Remove all of them or your mail will not work correctly.
- A: pop.
- A: mail.
- MX: @.
- TXT: @.
- TXT: _domainkey.
- TXT: mail._domainkey.
If you are asking about the TXT records, they all are for our servers, when we send mail we sign the emails, thats what the domain key records are for, thats the code we sign, and the TXT record with v=spf1 is used to say our server is allowed to send mail for your domain, and only our server.
Adding Google Apps MX records
So now that we have that all finished it's time to add the records for Google Apps. Just enter the entries below as a MX record, and for the Host Value (name) use "@".
- ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
- ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
- ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
- ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
- ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
You are done
See that was not so difficult. DNS is easy when you get the hang of it, and has some amazing features. Just remember that changes to DNS records may take up to 48 hours to propagate throughout the Internet. So now you can enjoy your Google Apps mail.
